Flitcraft – Our Long Journey to the Middle LP/CD
FLITCRAFT is the new project from Australian hard rock / heavy metal musician Phillip T. King. Last seen on vocals and guitar in 70’s influenced psych-rockers BUTTERFLY, and on vocals in traditional / speed metallers GALAXY, King’s new project falls somewhere in between those previous musical adventures. It’s hard rock with quirk…traditional heavy metal with a twist.

Mortal Whisper – S/T CD (Dystopian Dogs Records)
Yet another gem from Chile, Mortal Whisper play excellent power/speed metal that will appeal to fans of Savage Grace, Riot, and early Helloween. This 2017 recording features impressive instrumentation which isn’t quite matched from a technical perspective by the vocals, but this is made up for in emotion and feeling, and compliments the dark atmosphere of the songs nicely. Overall a strong and passionate collection of heavy songs, and alongside their countrymen Acero Letal, Hemisferio, Armoured Knight, Defeater etc Mortal Whisper prove once again that Chile is pumping out some of the finest heavy metal today.
This new CD edition also includes a cool looking embroidered patch featuring the cover art.
Sabbat – Karisma MC (Land of Fog Records)
Here we have the official cassette version of Sabbat’s classic full length album from 1999. Karisma features six tracks that offer a perfectly evil and unique blend of black, heavy, and thrash metal without ever sounding too deliberate or derivative of these styles. Clocking in at over 40 minutes, each song is lengthy but the strong song writing and musicianship ensures that they never overstay their welcome. This album has been played a lot in the Heavy Chains office and is my personal favourite in Sabbat’s insanely prolific discography.
Knifer – Don’t Say My Name/Strugglin’ 7″ (Rogues Realm Records)
Knifer hail from Brisbane, Australia and play dirty n mean hard rock that is more than a little influenced by the band started by a certain ex member of Hawkwind. These guys manage to push the grittiness even further and are clearly smoking their white ox without filters. The rough as guts vocals are countered by great blusey sleaze guitars, and everything is held together nicely by a natural sounding production.
This is music for being hungover on a hot day, and will appeal to fans of Motorhead and ZZ Top.
Blackmayne – S/T (Eat Metal Records)
Blackmayne were a group of horse enthusiasts from Maidstone, Kent that were active in the dying days of the NWOBHM. The band released their first (and only) album in 1985 and split up soon after, fading into obscurity.
On their self titled album, Blackmayne present us with some high energy, hard edged heavy metal that is on the heavier end of the spectrum of the UK heavy metal scene and combine great savage riffs with extremely catchy vocal hooks.
This new edition through the ever reliable Eat Metal Records includes some recently recorded bonus tracks, liner notes detailing the band’s short history as well as various photos of the band from back in the day.
